The sun’s blazing, the air is thick. It’s the perfect weather for us to grab a cool drink and chill in the shade! But let’s not forget our furry friends!
Dehydration can sneak up on them quickly in this heat, and it’s serious business.
Just like us, animals rely on water for essential bodily functions. Keeping them hydrated helps regulate their temperature, aids digestion, and keeps their organs working smoothly. So, what can we do?
Fresh Water Always: Make sure clean, fresh water is available at all times, both indoors and outdoors. Top up bowls frequently!
Multiple Sources: Offer water in several locations. This is especially important for multi-pet households.
Get Creative: Some pets are picky drinkers. Try adding ice cubes to their water, offering wet food, or even a pet-friendly “smoothie” made with water and a little flavouring (check with your vet first!).
Watch for Signs: Learn to recognize the signs of dehydration: sunken eyes, dry gums, lethargy, and decreased urination. If you spot these, contact your vet immediately.
Let’s all do our part to keep our animal friends safe and hydrated this summer. A little extra effort can make a huge difference to their well-being!
